TELL BARACK OBAMA TO DENOUCE HIS SUPPORTERS’ SMEARS ON AN AMERICAN HERO!

Barack Obama’s supporters are conducting a nasty smear campaign against one of the nation’s most decorated soldiers, General John Singlaub. 

Ø  Please sign our petition demanding that Obama denounce this attack on an American hero!

Ø  And help us get signatures on this petition by forwarding this e-mail to at least five friends.

As you may know, newly released documents reveal that Senator Obama, as a candidate and legislator in Chicago, had a close political alliance with a man who, even then, was one of the most famous terrorists in American history, William Ayres.

Now, in a vile effort to distract the American people from this despicable alliance, Obama supporters have launched a campaign to smear General Singlaub.  They suggest that General Singlaub’s relationship with John McCain is the moral equivalent of Obama’s relationship with the terrorist.

That’s right: To them, a U.S. military hero is the equivalent of an anti-American terrorist.  That is an outrage – the “politics of personal destruction” aimed at a man whose “offense” was serving his country.

This is the headline in The Politico, a respected publication that covers national politics: “Dems hope Singlaub is McCain’s Ayers.” 

On NBC’s Meet the Press, Democratic operative Paul Begala proclaimed, in response to revelations about Obama and Ayers, that “John McCain sat on the board of a very right-wing organization” that “was chaired by a guy named John Singlaub.”

“A guy” named John Singlaub???  Who the ---- does Begala think he is?

Let me tell you about Jack Singlaub.

During World War II, he parachuted behind Nazi lines in Europe to prepare French Resistance fighters for the D-Day invasion.  He led a mission that rescued 400 Allied POWs from a Japanese prison campaign on Hainan Island.  He headed U.S. intelligence operations in postwar Manchuria, led troops in the Korean War, managed the war along the Ho Chi Minh trail in Vietnam, and worked with pro-democracy forces against the communist dictatorship in Nicaragua. 

His honors include the Distinguished Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Silver Star, the French Croix de Guerre, and – just last year – the prestigious William J. Donovan Award from the OSS Society, the organization founded by veterans of the OSS, the predecessor of the CIA. Previous recipients of the Donovan Award include Presidents Eisenhower, Reagan, and George H.W. Bush, and British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

And he founded the U.S. Council for World Freedom, which worked closely with the Reagan White House in fighting the Cold War and which, according to the Associated Press, “was dedicated to stamping out communism around the globe.” (The council is the so-called “very right-wing group” of which McCain was a supporter.)

Compare the two men:

Ø  General Singlaub is an American hero.

Ø  Since the 1970s, William Ayers has been one of the world’s most famous terrorists, a former member of the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted List who got off on a technicality, a hate-filled extremist (“Kill your parents!” he urged young radicals) whose organization planted bombs at the Pentagon, the U.S. Capitol, and New York City police headquarters – who said, in an interview published on 9/11, that his only regret was that he hadn’t done enough bombing – and who, in 2001, posed for a photograph in which he stomped on the American flag.

Barack Obama must immediately denounce these smears that were obviously made on his behalf.

SENATOR OBAMA:

WE THE UNDERSIGNED express our demand that you denounce publicly and unequivocally the smears by your supporters against a decorated American hero, General Jack Singlaub.

FURTHER, WE DEMAND that you call upon Democratic operative Paul Begala to apologize publicly to General Singlaub and the American people for his absurd and slanderous remarks about this brave American hero, General Singlaub.

SENATOR OBAMA:  If you desire to be Commander in Chief, yet allow these types of slanderous attacks against decorated American military heroes – all in the name of the politics of your supporters – then you will have already betrayed the American men and women in uniform.  In the name of country above politics, you must ACT NOW

And please forward this message to your friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, any veterans you know and people in your civic club or religious organization.

Ø  We will rush this message to Senator Obama, and publicize this effort in the national news media in order to counter the anti-Singlaub smear.

The attacks on General Singlaub are really attacks on every person who has served our country in the military; they are attacks on everyone who worked alongside President Reagan to defeat the communists who murdered 100 million people and threatened our country with nuclear destruction.
