Conservatives expect an “outsider” candidate to win the Republican presidential nomination according to a poll by FedUp PAC. With all GOP establishment candidate trailing outsiders Donald Trump and Ted Cruz in recent polls, 76% say they expect one of the outsiders to get the nomination at the July convention in Cleveland.
Conservatives also saw Trump and Cruz as leading the pack in last week’s Charleston debate, with 49% naming Trump as the winner and 35% choosing Cruz. No other candidate was higher than the 6% of Marco Rubio.
Those responding were more closely divided on the question of who was most effective at defending Second Amendment rights during the debate. Trump was selected by 43% with Cruz right behind at 40%. Rubio and Ben Carson lagged far behind with 5% each.
FedUp PAC is a grass roots organization that wants constitutional conservatives to take over the GOP because Americans are fed up with the Republican establishment. It is not affiliated with any candidate or committee.
