I Support Trump's Budget and the Shutdown
To: Speaker of the House Paul Ryan
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell
As the chief Republican leaders in Washington, you have let the President down.
President Trump was elected to bring change to Washington, and change starts with how the Federal government spends its money. The new priorities must be Trump programs such as a wall along the Mexican border.
You have allied yourselves with the Establishment Republicans and Democrats who think they can force President Trump to accept a business-as-usual budget by telling the President that it is take-it-or-leave it. They claim vetoing their spending bill would shut down the government, and that a shutdown is unthinkable.
That's nonsense! When Bill Clinton vetoed conservative spending bills and shut down the government, many of these same establishment figures cheered him on.
Trump is right to use the same weapon that was so effective for Clinton. If Congress sends him a budget that looks like what Hillary Clinton would have proposed, he should veto it. He should keep on vetoing until Congress gives him a Trump budget, one that starts to "Drain the Swamp."
It's time for the Republicans in Congress to get on board with the President.
You must announce that you will fight for a Trump budget, and that if Congress passes anything less, you will tell the President that he should veto it.
I will consider anything less as a betrayal of the President and of the campaign promises made during the 2016 election.
And if you break your 2016 promises, I will know better than to believe you at any time in the future.
Sincerely,
