Democrats say that Americans do not want a Supreme Court justice who faithfully obeys the Constitution in his rulings. They claim that this is an “extreme” position that threatens to destroy everything good about America, and therefore they expect Republican Senate candidates to suffer defeats in November for supporting Kavanaugh.
Republicans believe that the Constitution is a vital part of the foundation on which our great nation was built, and that faithfulness to the Constitution is popular with voters. They expect that supporting Kavanaugh will help GOP senators and that many Democrats could lose if they oppose him.
Will the Kavanaugh nomination help or hurt the Republicans in this year’s Senate races?
