Conservatives want Senate Republicans to oppose President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee with every weapon they have according to a poll by FedUp PAC.

             Delaying the selection until the next president takes office in 2017 is considered “very important” by 89%, but 82% are “very concerned” that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell may cave in to pressure from the news media and political establishment on the issue.  The danger that some Republican senators will eventually vote for Obama’s nominee is a great concern to 81%.

             The proper course of action, according to 77%, is to refuse to allow the nomination to come up for a vote.  Another 12% say a vote should be allowed, while 4% favor compromising with Obama on a “moderate” nominee.

             Refusing to even hold hearings on the nominee has 58% support, while another 36% say hearings should be used to expose the nominee’s record.  Should the nomination reach the Senate floor, 88% say it should be blocked by a filibuster.

             The sharpest division is over whether Sen. McConnell will pay any attention to conservatives.  Only 38% are confident that conservative grassroots pressure will have an effect, while 27% believe McConnell will ignore conservatives and 35% are unsure.

             Republican Senators who support Obama’s nominee will have to fear a conservative backlash at the polls.  Only 9% say such a vote will make them more likely to vote to re-elect their senators, while 87% say they would be more likely to vote against re-election.
