Conservatives see the spending bill passed by Congress for the rest of fiscal year 2017 as a betrayal of President Trump and his budget priorities, according to a poll by FedUp PAC.
House Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell had a duty to get Trump’s spending plan in the bill, say 96% of those responding to the poll.
Democrats have been boasting about their victory in the spending fight. While the bill included increased money for many items on the Democratic wish list, it prohibited spending on the border wall and greatly reduced what Trump had requested for defense. Democrats terrified Congressional Republicans by threatening to block passage and shut down the Federal government unless the bill reflected the Democrats’ policy goals.
Trump will be sending his 2018 budget to Congress soon. That proposal is expected to take on many of the Washington establishment’s sacred cows, including the United Nations, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
It is clear that Congress will treat Trump’s budget as “dead on arrival” unless public opinion demands a conservative budget. Without vocal support from the public, Trump’s wishes will be treated with the same contempt as they were in the 2017 spending bill.
FedUp PAC is a grass roots organization that wants constitutional conservatives to take over the GOP because Americans are fed up with the Republican establishment. It is not affiliated with any candidate or committee.
