Demand that Mitch McConnell resign as Senate Majority Leader

Help us get 4 million Kentuckians to send this letter to Senator Mitch McConnell, and let Republican fundraisers know you, too—wherever you live—will not contribute to the GOP until McConnell resigns or is replaced as Senate Majority Leader

Here is the letter we will ask Kentuckians to sign, as our first step in dumping Mitch McConnell.

Dear Senator McConnell:

I am a proud Kentuckian and I demand that you resign as Senate Majority Leader.

  • You have not kept your promises to the voters and residents of Kentucky.
  • You were ineffective in helping Donald Trump defeat Hillary Clinton last year. He defeated Hillary because of voters like me, and despite the lukewarm "support" from Swamp Republicans like you.
  • You are alleged to be a master of the Senate Rules, yet you have been consistently outmaneuvered by Democratic minority leader Charles Schumer and before that Harry Reid and President Barack Obama.
  • Under your failed leadership, the bills to repeal and replace Obamacare—the most important Republican issue for the past seven years—have gone down to defeat. This is true of all other important legislation as well.
  • Under your failed leadership, every budget has been a last-minute train wreck requiring a midnight vote on a continuing resolution, and ultimately an omnibus spending bill full of pork and liberal spending priorities.
  • Under your failed leadership, the Senate has confirmed only 1 t o 2 judicial nominees per month since President Trump was sworn in. There are 22 outstanding nominees at the present time. Four of those have been reported out of the Judiciary Committee and could be brought to a floor vote, yet they languish.
  • Unlike the tactics of former Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who changed the Senate rules to advance the Obama agenda and nominees, you have allowed the Republican agenda and Trump nominees to become hostage to obscure Senate rules—all of which could be changed by a simple majority vote.

In short, you are the ideal Democratic candidate to be the Republican leader of the Senate.

  • Moreover, you have made a point of advancing and funding many of President Obama's most noxious anti-conservative policies, such as Obamacare, DACA, and his dangerous refugee policies.
  • Conservative policies—such as repealing Obamacare, passing tax reform, an infrastructure plan, and more—have been stalled in the Senate. At the same time, however, anti-conservative legislation and bills intended to embarrass President Trump have all passed quickly. Examples: sanctions on Russia, bills to prevent the firing of Special Counsel Mueller, and S.J. Res 49, which condemned white supremacy but not Antifa.
  • Senate Democrats have been allowed to obstruct funding of the southern border wall and other "America first" immigration and border security measures. Indeed, you have personally obstructed the passage of such measures to protect America.
  • You have obstructed President Trump's responsible calls to fulfill Republican promises to cut spending. While tax collections are now at record levels, the deficit continues to grow at Obama-era levels, with no end in sight.
  • And while the Left has spent more than $15 million to stop the repeal of Obamacare, you and your allies in the Republican Party have recently spent more than $30 million—not to build support for conservative policies such as repealing Obamacare, but to defeat conservative candidates in primaries, including Judge Roy Moore in Alabama.

For these and other reasons, I call on you to resign immediately from your position as Majority Leader of the Senate. As for your reelection campaign in 2020, we will see how you act and vote between now and then. Meanwhile, I refuse to contribute to any Republican fundraising effort that benefits you, until you resign or are voted out of that position by your GOP colleagues in the Senate.

Sincerely,

(Kentucky citizens will sign here)
