Conservatives are divided on the probable outcome of the race to replace Speaker Paul Ryan as the top Republican in the House, but a majority believe he will be followed by a conservative.
More than 56% say that the new GOP leader will be someone who will “faithfully promote the agenda that gave Republicans the Presidency and Congress in the 2016 elections.” However, 26% think it more likely that the Washington establishment will succeed in electing someone who will “block the conservative-populist agenda.”
The poll was taken after Ryan had endorsed Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy as his successor and Majority Whip Steve Scalise had declined to challenge McCarthy. Rep. Jim Jordan, a leader of the Freedom Caucus, seems to be the congressman most likely to contest the election.
FedUp PAC is a grass roots organization that wants constitutional conservatives to take over the GOP because Americans are fed up with the Republican establishment. It is not affiliated with any candidate or committee.
