Almost 4,000 conservatives signed a FedUp PAC petition to Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer calling for a prompt vote on the nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Gorsuch is recognized as a very well qualified nominee and has a record of faithfully following the Constitution and laws, rather than his own policy preferences. He is likely to have unanimous support from Senate Republicans.
Schumer and other Democratic senators have threatened to use the filibuster to block any vote to confirm Gorsuch. Under Senate rules, 60 votes are required to overcome a filibuster and the Senate has only 52 Republicans. At least eight Democratic votes would be required to end the filibuster.
Democrats are under great pressure from the left-wing of their party to do everything possible to obstruct Trump’s agenda, and blocking Gorsuch is at the top of their priority list. The Left knows that Gorsuch will not be willing to ignore the clear language of the Constitution on behalf of left-wing causes. They would rather leave that place on the court vacant for the next four years than allow it to be filled by a constitutional conservative.
Schumer and other Senate Democrats will need to hear from conservative and independent voters to offset the pressure of the Left. This petition is the first step, but FedUp PAC will be doing much more to put the heat on Democratic senators.
