Should the money you pay in taxes end up going to left-wing groups that support the Obama agenda?

That is exactly what has been happening for the past eight years. And it’s nothing new. President Ronald Reagan fought to cut off taxpayer subsidies to the organizations that were fighting against his agenda. He had some success, but establishment Republicans and the Democratic-controlled House protected much of this scandalous spending.

Today President-elect Trump has the establishment on the run and Republicans control Congress. It’s time to finish the job.

Here are some examples of what has been going on during the Obama years.

The Urban Institute is one of the most influential leftist organizations in the country. It has promoted ObamaCare, amnesty for illegal aliens, homosexual “rights”, higher taxes, and reducing prison sentences for criminals. From 2009 through 2016 it received almost $269 million from the Federal government.

The Carter Center, Jimmy Carter’s private foundation, is well-known for supporting appeasement of Cuba and China. It has also favored the International Criminal Court, which would violate the sovereignty of the United States and allow Americans in the armed forces to be subjected to prosecution at the demand of foreigners. (President George W. Bush wisely refused to allow the U.S. to submit to the jurisdiction of this Court.) During the Obama years, the Carter Center received more than $66 million from the U.S. Treasury.

The Children’s Defense Fund has been Hillary Clinton’s favorite organization (at least until the Clinton Foundation was set up), and she once served on its Board of Directors. The CDF, a constant campaigner for more welfare, has received almost $9 million during the past eight years.

The National Council of La Raza is a leading advocate for amnesty for illegal aliens. It’s no surprise that it raked in more than $28 million from Obama while supporting his policies.

President Trump should not allow this to continue. He cannot “drain the swamp” if the Federal government keeps handing out money to organizations that will fight him every step of the way. It’s time to stop the flow of taxpayer dollars. Level the playing field by making leftists survive on voluntary contributions, just as conservatives do.

Nothing will happen, however, unless conservatives at the grass roots make it happen. Congress must feel the heat as voters demand they take action to cut off these subsidies. Letters and emails to President Trump will encourage him to press ahead with this project. Letters and emails to Congress will help remove the obstacles to victory.
