Conservatives Say Trump Should Veto DACA Amnesty, Even If It Shuts Down the Government

Conservatives want President Trump to veto any bill that writes Obama’s DACA amnesty into law, according to a poll by FedUp PAC.

The 96% who favor a veto say that Trump should stop DACA even if it is included in a government funding bill and a veto would temporarily shut down part of the Federal government.  Democrats have threatened to put amnesty in every spending bill passed by Congress and they expect to have substantial support from establishment, anti-Trump Republicans.  During 1995-1996 President Clinton vetoed spending bills and shut down the government until Congress surrendered and passed the bills as he wanted them.

Trump campaigned last year as an opponent of amnesty, including DACA.  Polls indicated that his opposition was a key issue in winning voter support, especially against pro-amnesty Republicans such as Jeb Bush.

DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) was the temporary amnesty carried out by executive action in 2012 after Congress refused to pass a permanent amnesty bill.  The legality of Obama’s action is doubtful, and when state attorneys general threatened a lawsuit similar to the one which blocked Obama’s larger 2014 amnesty, Trump announced that he would phase out the program.
