More than 6,500 conservatives signed FedUp PAC’s National Thank You Note to President Trump, expressing their gratitude for the nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court.

The big response demonstrated the importance of the Supreme Court issue in the 2016 election. When Justice Antonin Scalia died in February, the Republican majority in the Senate pledged to keep the seat vacant until 2017, allowing the voters to decide who should make the nomination.

With the possibility that Hillary Clinton would make one or more appointments that would lock in a liberal Court majority for years or decades to come, polls showed that the Supreme Court was uppermost in the minds of many voters. Among those who ranked it as a high priority, Trump beat Clinton by an impressive 15 points, 56-41.

Trump provided important encouragement to conservatives during the campaign by releasing a list of twenty-one judges from whom he would make his first choice. The names on the list won broad-based praise from conservatives, assuring voters that his nominee would not be another David Souter, Harry Blackmun, or Sandra Day O’Connor.

Gorsuch was considered to be among the best on the list and conservatives have quickly lined up behind his nomination. Even some liberals have praised him, recognizing his qualifications and his impartial handling of the law.

It appears likely that Democrats can only prevent Senate approval of Gorsuch by a filibuster, and those who signed the National Thank You Note to President Trump also promised to “help break the filibuster.” Eight Democratic Senators will be needed to reach the sixty votes required to end a filibuster, and strong constituent pressure will be the key to winning those eight.

FedUp PAC is leading the fight to overcome the filibuster, targeting independent voters in fifteen states with a Democratic senator up for reelection in 2018. Follow this link to see the email FedUp PAC is sending to those voters.
